Welcome to the Fairy Meadow Demonstration School's Permaculture garden, a lush and educational sanctuary within our school grounds in Wollongong, Australia. Our vibrant garden is not only a haven of natural beauty but also a dynamic outdoor classroom where students embark on an exciting journey of discovery, conservation, and sustainability.
In this thriving garden, we cultivate a diverse array of crops, from succulent cucumbers and juicy tomatoes to crisp lettuce and an array of natural Australian herbs and plants, including rosemary and mint. What sets our garden apart is our unwavering commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. We proudly create natural fertilizer from school waste, fallen leaves, greenery, straw, and hay, enriching our soil and instilling in our students the importance of recycling and reducing waste. It's not just a garden; it's a living example of a closed-loop, sustainable system in action.
At Fairy Meadow Demonstration School, we firmly believe in the power of experiential learning. Our garden serves as a captivating outdoor classroom where students actively engage in planting seeds, nurturing seedlings, and witnessing the miraculous growth of their crops. Our dedicated teachers and gardener guide young green thumbs in understanding the intricate web of life, the role of pollinators, and the significance of biodiversity. Hands-on experiences foster a profound connection to nature and a sense of responsibility towards our environment.
Our Permaculture garden is more than just a source of fresh produce; it's a place where students learn life lessons. They discover the interconnectedness of all living things, gain a deep appreciation for local flora and fauna, and develop essential skills in environmental stewardship. By actively participating in the garden's activities, our students not only nurture their curiosity but also cultivate a strong sense of responsibility towards our planet.
